Yesterday lil G was being stubborn and wouldn't kick for me....I only got 8 in 4 1/2 hours so I decided to finally call Dr.M. (You should have atleast 10 kicks every 2 hours) He sent me over to L&D for a NST (non-stress test) on the babe. When I got there the nurse asked if I was having any contractions and I told her no...just an achy back and some cramping. Once she got me all hooked up, I knew something wasn't right because she stayed for about 20 minutes checking out the monitor and documenting stuff. After awhile she asked if I could feel contractions and again I said-'I just feel like I have really bad period cramps.' Well....who knew those were contractions?! (They should teach you this stuff, ya know!) The contractions were coming about every 3-5 minutes and were pretty strong. Lil G's was a little 'lazy' too and wasn't passing the NST.
The awesome nurse (who was soo great and treated me and G like queens!) called Dr.M to see what he wanted to do. He ordered a FNN (Fetal Fibronectin) which is a test were they swab your cervix and test the protein amount. If the test comes back positive, you have a 1 in 6 change of going into preterm labor within 2 weeks. They did a cervical check and the nurse said I was finger-tip dilated, 10% (I think that means 10% effaced?), -2 station and a thick cervix. Then she followed with...well atleast your cervix is thick! He also ordered a urine analysis and they continued to watch me for awhile.
Luckily-my contractions slowed down on their own so I was released. I was supposed to call if I had more.....from about 8pm-10pm I was having contractions every 10 minutes or so but I was way too exhausted to call and I ended up falling asleep. I woke up a few times with them but today is much better-only 1-2 an hour. I talked to a nurse from my OB's office and she said the FNN test was negative but I'm waiting on a call from Dr.M to see what the plan is from now on.... I'll update when I hear from him :-)

sounds like your doctor is taking good care of you! That happened to me when I was 34 weeks pregnant, turned out I was severely dehydrated. I stayed overnight while they pumped fluids into me and we were okay after that! Keep that baby in for a few more weeks! :)
