The last 5 days we've been working on 'sleep training' with Gianna. As some of you know G used to only take naps if I was holding her and those only last 10-40 minutes. I finally decided that wasn't cutting it when G started being a crabby patty. I bought the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and let me tell you, I love it! It's more about teaching how parents can be better at putting their child to sleep. Of course, some of the ideas I don't agree with (like letting her child cry for an hr!) but the rest of the book I really like.
The last few days G has been napping at 9 and 12...most naps are atleast one hour. However a miracle occurred and G slept for four hours the other day! 12:15 to 4:20!! Today has been a bit more, um, demanding as G doesn't want to sleep but from what I learned in the book I can't give in. I know Gianna is tired so I have to work through her crying while I rock her to sleep. I used to just give up after a few minutes because I hated to see her so upset. But now I keep rocking or bouncing and after about 5 minutes she's fast asleep :-) Next week we are transitioning her to her crib!
Another issue we dealt with this week is her refusing to eat! It started the middle of last week and Gianna would fight the bottle. We thought maybe she wasn't hungry enough but no matter how long we waited, she didn't want it. (More like she struggled when she ate, tossing and grunting but still trying to suck...) It got really bad over the weekend and finally on Monday I called our pedi and brought G in. The pedi said we should probably increase G's prevacid to help with acid reflux and that Gianna might also be teething! YIKES! She had a few days of higher temps (in the 100's) but had no ear, throat, etc redness. The pedi said it could take 4-6 weeks for a tooth to break through so we may be in for the long run. Yesterday she was super happy but today she's a little cranky. She just kind of acts like something is bothering her, so maybe she is teething...who knows!
Oh and G weighs 14lbs7oz :-)

I agree with letting a child cry themselves to sleep, BUT, not for an hour and not when they're 3 months old! My son is almost 2 and on occasion he wakes up in the middle of the night and will cry for about 5-10 minutes but he goes back to sleep so I let him be. He didn't start sleeping through the night until he was 14 months old (crazy right?) and when he did that I finally had to just let him cry it out each time he woke up. It only took 2 nights of that and he was trained! Good luck with Baby G!
Good luck on the sleep issues. Just remember its not forever. If she is teething (which E did at 3months) you can give her Hylands Teething tablets. They are all natural so it won't hurt her if thats not quite the issue. You can buy them at target, walgreens, anywhere really. Good Luck!
