The first few days...

Wait, what am I talking about...Cora is a week old today! I suppose the title to this post should be 'the first week'. Or "the fastest week of my life!". The days fly by with our little family of four. Tomorrow is our newborn/family photo shoot and I'm already stressed I won't get everything done by then; and my list is short. It includes giving the girls baths, painting G and I's finger nails, washing/styling my hair (it's in the AM and my hair always looks better after I sleep on it; strange I know). Plus I have a few childhood things I'm going to make Jeff clean up today for our pictures tomorrow.

Anyway, back to the first week. Life has been grand. I feel overly blessed with my two girls. Of course, it hasn't always been puppies and rainbows. Gianna loves her baby sister to death, but sometimes (ok quite often) she's a little rough with her. I try to let her kiss/hug/snuggle her sister as much as she wants so she knows she's not 'off limits' or anything but we always have to keep an eye on her. Jeff has pretty much been the main care taker of G, which is hard for me. He's been awesome though, making sure she has some craft time or they dig something new out to play with so she doesn't get bored. Cora is such a good baby (knock on wood!) but she needs nursed every couple hours and let's face it, I'm not up to my old self yet, still a bit sore. Last night G and I ventured to Target on our own though which was fun (it's the little things, right?!) and I've been napping with her in the afternoon so we can sneak in lots of snuggles! Overall, Gianna has been great. I know it will take awhile to feel back to 'normal' for our family but I wouldn't change a thing. I'm so lucky to have two healthy, beautiful little girls.

Cora has been a great baby. The first few nights home were rough on all of us but we've gotten into the swing of things. I've learned if I let her cluster feed in the evening she'll go 3-4 hours between feedings at night.  I also have to wake her every 3 hours during the day to eat.  She gets sleepy during the night during feedings so I'll 'top her off' with an oz of breastmilk in a bottle so she's nice and full and will sleep decent. Plus, I usually go to bed between 9-10pm and Jeff will take the first feeding (again, breastmilk in a bottle). Then he brings her upstairs when he goes to bed between 11-12. She's usually up again around 2/3am and then again around 5:30/7:30am. I guess I can't really complain about her schedule, it's actually pretty good for a newborn!

When we left the hospital her bili reuben (sp?) levels were a touch high (9) so we've done two blood draws but her levels are going down so we don't have to do the bili blanket (thankfully!). Cora also is such a loud breather and snorts all.the.time when she's hungry. I really need to get it on video because I just love it! We've also noticed that she's showing early signs of AR (acid reflux). Gianna had it so we know what to look for. After we got home from the hospital we noticed she was starting to spit up and would sometimes cry/fuss when she was spitting up. She also has some issues nursing where she'll cry or gag a bit, which is most likely from the milk coming back up a bit. We're going to talk to our pedi about it at her two week check up.  I also noticed if I drink milk her spit up is all curdled so I've taken straight milk out of my diet and made sure not to eat too spicy or acidy food. So far it seems to be helping!

Her belly button also fell of yesterday! Which means tonight we get to give her a real bath...which I'm sure she'll hate. She loves when I wash or comb her hair though so atleast I know she won't scream during that part :-)

Here's her stats for the past week.

Birth weight: 8lbs14.9oz
2 day weight: 8lbs5.6oz
5 day weight: 8lbs4oz

She's losing a bit, but that's normal for a newborn. Hopefully she'll be back up to her birth weight by her two week check up!

And here's some pictures...
Cora and I, right after birth! Looks like her momma! YAH!
C soaking in some sun, G wanted to keep her company :-)
