Well I had my first trip to Labor & Delivery...hopefully my next one results in a baby ;-)
First, let me just say that Jeff was 4hrs away when all this was going on!
Monday after I laid Gianna down for nap I went to the bathroom and noticed I was spotting. I debated on and off for the next hour whether to call my Ob's office. I know that sounds bad but I knew they would make me go to L&D and I had an 'instinct' that this spotting was nothing. Finally I decided to call and talked to the on call nurse which said just to monitor it and to call if I had anymore (the spotting only lasted about 10 minutes). I was so thankful for that!
Of course, 20 minutes later the same nurse called back and said that she spoke with the on-call physician (because my OB was out of the office!) and she wanted me to go to L&D. I asked if I could just be seen tomorrow but nope-I needed to be checked out that night. Thankfully I have an amazing friend, Molly, who helped with Gianna the whole time we were in the hospital.
Off we went to the hospital (Molly dropped me off and went to run some errands with G)
Once I got checked in and hooked up to the monitors the fun began (ha!). Baby was looking great on the monitors but I was having mild, but increasing, contractions that were about 5 minutes apart. While they monitored that I had an internal exam (I was 1cm/10% dilated and at -2 station). They also did a FFN test which tests how likely it is that I would go into full blown labor and deliver in the next two weeks (the results came back low!). They also wanted to do an ultrasound to check on the placement of the placenta. Right before the ultrasound began I was given a shot to stop my contractions and although it made me feel terrible and shaky-it worked like a charm!
The ultrasound looked great. Baby was measuring right on schedule, weighing about 5lbs3oz (although a little short-which doesn't surprise me as Jeff and I are not tall people!). I didn't get to see a lot of good pictures of her face but I did see her tiny bit of hair again and her big feet!
Sometime in between all that craziness G and Molly came back. Gianna kept asking if she could hear her baby sister's heart 'beep' on the monitor. She also gave her little sister (aka my belly) lots of hugs & kisses! I honestly don't know what I would have done if Molly wasn't there. G just would not sit still and wanted to get into everything! Molly took G on a few walks and let her play in the waiting area a bit too, which helped with her restlessness.
Finally, at 9pm I was released from the hospital. I followed up with Dr.M that week. Everything is still looking good! Jeff does leave for Canada for 5 days next week, when I'm 36 weeks, so Dr.M is going to do another internal at the end of this week to make sure I haven't made any progress. He says it's unlikely I'll go into labor in the next couple weeks but just to be sure...I really don't want to have a baby without Jeff there!
Here's the crazy thing...I was looking back at my blog from when I was pregnant with Gianna and at 34 weeks I was in the hospital for mild/increasing contractions and was also dilated to 1cm! Then by 36 weeks I was 2.5-3cm and G was born at 39 weeks. G & baby 2.0's ultrasound weight estimates were even the same! Crazy! It makes me wonder if the next few weeks will be just like the last few weeks of my pregnancy with G. I'll admit, I wouldn't mind (and hope I do!) have this little one before 40 weeks again!
